Instead of having our regular Ohana Night, the bishopric and activities committee prepared a luau in honor of our military men in our ward who are about to deploy (almost all of the Elder's Quorum presidency and the Executive Secretary to the bishop are leaving--meaning my whole Primary Presidency will be without our husbands soon). Anyway, so our men were honored with leis (handmade out of oragami stars and beads) and with songs and dance put on by all members of the ward. A member who is on R&R (2 week leave during a deployment) spoke to us. So did a retired veteran. He had such high praise for everyone. Our stake president even spoke to us about the importance of the work our military men are doing and how we who are left behind will be especially blessed (yeah, waaaaay hard not to cry during that speech).
So it was quite a night of festivities. Here is Ry sporting his new lei (which will now hang on my rear view mirror til he comes home). You can't really tell here, but the lei is red, white, and blue.
Marcus wanted a chance to wear the cool lei.
One big bundle of love here!
As part of the entertainment, the Primary got up to sing a song. We kept it quite simple (since we were given such short notice) and sang "Popcorn Popping".
