Lost Identity

I think that Grammom (Ryan's mother) is feeling like she's getting the shaft. Check out the email she sent to me today:

So, when Julia was in preschool and I showed up unexpectedly at her school and stopped to watch her on the playground, she wouldn’t even talk to me but went to the aide and pointed at me saying, “That looks like the one that goes with PaPa”. Now, Julia is 7 instead of 4 but let me tell you what happened today. I went to Boyd and observed in Jacob’s kindergarten class. We read a book together and when I left his friends asked him who I was. His teacher told me that he said, “Oh, that’s Grandmom-the one that lives in PaPa’s house.”

My kids adore their grandparents...each one of them. But I think that just as we sort of lose our identity once we are married...so do grandparents. The Papa always goes with Grammom. Joycelyn goes with Randy. I go with Ryan.

So here's the question I'm posing to Grammom: If the kids visit Papa at work (or if he were to visit them at school) do you think they would see him and say "I know you! You're the one that goes with Grammom!" :)

Nine days

There are officially nine more days til glorious freedom. No more puffy red eyes that hurt and itch like nobodies business. I'll be able to breathe indoors and not have to carry around a box of tissues. I won't have any more crazy urges to scratch my eyes out. Only nine more days....nine more days....nine more days.....

Summer swimming

I was going through my photos when I came across these of the kids swimming in the backyard. So much fun! And pool toys? Yeah right. Try invading my kitchen for utensils--they work the same if not better!

Yep, these are definitely my kiddos. Gotta love 'em!

Oh sickly ones

So it started out with Evelyn throwing up a few weekends ago. She had a fever and couldn't keep anything down for three days straight. Then it moved onto Jacob (he ran a fever for 5 days). Mr. Marcus over lapped Jacob's last two days with a lovely fever of his own. Then we were finally fever free for almost a week. Then Saturday Julia just didn't feel very well. She seemed fine when she was with Joycelyn and I at the mall. But as soon as we got home she disappeared for an hour. Being a seasoned mom of four, I didn't go looking for her til after that one hour (I could hear all the other kids so I didn't worry about them). Well, after searching the front and the back yard with no sign of her, I finally asked Evelyn if she'd seen Julia. "Yeah Mommy, she's in bed". Sure enough, Julia had put herself in bed with the covers pulled up tightly to her chin. Her whole body was on fire, but she was so cold that her skin had purple goose bumps. It's now Tuesday and her fever still hasn't gone away. I was warned about this flu thingy that's been going around. It supposedly lasts 4-5 days with high fevers and throwing up. Blech, what a combination. I'm hoping that adults are immune to it--it really should be against the law for any mother to get sick period. Speaking of....that pink eye that I get every September....hmmm, knock on wood but I think that the Chudley Cannons finally won the World Quidditch cup! So far I don't have it! Strangely enough, Ryan has it and Marcus had it a week ago. Ryan never gets pink eye. We're still trying to figure this one out.
Back to the 4-5 day flu...if my calculations are correct then Julia's fever will go away for good tomorrow night. Hopefully we'll have a germfree home by then! We've never had a sickness go through the entire family before--and I'm done with it! Everyone cross your fingers with me (and let's all take a good size gulp of Felix Felicis) so that we can have a healthy family!
