Texas Rodeo

Before we went to see Ryan for graduation, we first visited my brother Jason and his family (Karen and Grant). We hit the rodeo that Houston hosts for a month. We've never been to one before and we completely enjoyed seeing all the animals, shows, and rides.

Evelyn's first encounter being up close and personal with a cow. She thought it was quite cute.

Can't go to a rodeo without riding the ponies right?

I beg to differ...but it's what the sign says....:)

The food was soooooo yummy there. I think my favorite thing was the french fry LOGS. Dump a ton of cury fries into the frying basket and let them cook. When they're done, dump the thing (which is now a huge log of fries) over onto a plate and throw on the seasonings. Sooooo goood! The kids enjoyed the corn dogs (or as Evelyn calls them "corn dog on a stick"). They had the longest ones I have ever seen. Longer than Evelyn's head!

This was by far one of the most HILARIOUS things I've ever watched!!!! Kids ages 6 and under volunteer to don a helmet and protective vest and then climb on the back of a huge sheep and see how long they can hang on while the lamb takes off at full speed and crashes them into the walls of the pen. I asked Jacob if he wanted to try...LOL. "No way!!!" We had a fun time laughing at all the kids giving it a try though!

Inside a huge building, there were animals everywhere...cows, chickens, rabbits, pigs, ect. We went through every section to see the different animals. The kids loved it as they were able to pet almost every animal.

I must agree with Jacob that it was rather a bit stinky in there. :)

This little chick is only minutes old. In the glass case are tons of chicken eggs that are hatching. It was rather cool and humbling to see the little chicks trying so hard to break out of their shell and begin life.

Two seconds ago he was begging to say hi to this cow, but when it came time for the picture he was screaming bloody murder. Go figure!

Julia really got into the spirit of the rodeo...we were on a mission to find her a pink (or purple) cowGIRL hat. I think Nana spotted this one in one of the many shops. It lights up in the front! How was I supposed to say "no" to it?

Yeah, I didn't and she was in heaven. We went down row after row of all these cows that were getting ready for contests and shows. We came across one that was just so beautiful...we asked the owner if we could pet it. Jason had actually started making a really good cow "mooing" impersonation. The cow started mooing back to him!

Evelyn was scared spitless of the above cow. But all fears left as we entered the petting zoo. She was right at home here among the sheep and the miniature ponies.

Most of all, I think the kids loved seeing their cousin Grant (whom they've only ever seen maybe a handful of times). Grant and Marcus were two high pitched peas in a pod (Jason and Karen, you know what I mean!). Thanks for letting us come and visit! Love you guys!
